Over the Rhine tour dates
In many ways, the Ohio-based band Over the Rhine's work defies categorization, blending influences from gospel, folk, pop and Christian rock. At its core is the husband-wife duo of Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist, who are backed by a rotating cast for albums and tours. Often inspired by literary sources, the Cincinnati tandem sends fans on a journey of place and time, painting detailed musical narratives.
Over the Rhine's background
Over the Rhine's debut album, Till We Have Faces, was released in 1991 and the following year was followed by Patience. In 2013, Over the Rhine released the double album Meet Me at the Edge of the World, the title track of which remains their most popular song. The album was produced by musician Joe Henry, and features special guest Aimee Mann.
Over the Rhine's name
Over the Rhine derives its name from the downtown Cincinnati neighborhood that served as Detweiler's home for a decade. When Over the Rhine was first founded, the neighborhood was considered a tough part of town, dotted with abandoned buildings and saddled with a high incidence of prostitution and drug dealing. Over the years, however, the neighborhood's fundamental beauty prevailed and its reputation has largely moved in a positive direction - a shift for which many credit the musical group of the same name.
