New Politics Tickets
Formed in Copenhagen, Denmark, New Politics is a three-piece group that mixes punk energy with pure pop sounds. With lots of dance music and electronic elements, the band is hard to categorise musically. The three members of New Politics are David Boyd, Søren Hansen and Louis Vecchio. The original drummer, Poul Amaliel, who also played the bass guitar from time to time, was replaced by Vecchio in 2010. Their biggest hit single was “Harlem”, which peaked at number four in the US Alternative Billboard charts in 2013.
New Politics' history
Founded in 2009 to enter a radio station competition seeking new music, the trio of New Politics ended up in the top four. As finalists, they went on to perform at a major music festival in Denmark and subsequently came to the public's attention. In November of that year, the band was signed to RCA and a brief tour of the UK followed. After that, a full tour of the United States was booked. It was at the time that the group decided to stay in America and the members have resided there ever since.
Highlights of 2010 for the band included their performance at the South by Southwest Festival in March of that year. They also went on to release their self-titled album, which featured 10 energy-soaked tracks. New Politics filmed a video in New York in support of their first single to be taken from the album. “Yeah Yeah Yeah” reached number 16 in the US Alternative charts. Its follow-up, “Dignity”, also charted but performed less well. Later in 2010, the band began a 30-date tour of the country, supporting Thirty Seconds to Mars, picking up new fans along the way. During this period, Amaliel left to return to his native country.
New Politics' later work
During 2012, the band began recording their second album and released the song “Harlem” from it. The album would only come out in 2013, however, being released in May. Receiving praise from some music critics in the US, “Harlem” in particular gained a degree of mainstream airplay. The band toured once more, this time supporting Fall Out Boy, and headlined their own shows. In 2014, New Politics toured Europe, again as a support act for Fall Out Boy.
The album Vikings was released in 2015, this time on Warner Brothers Records. It spawned three singles, “Everywhere I Go (Kings & Queens)”, “Girl Crush” and “West End Kids”, which all charted. The band continue to write and perform in their unique style.
