Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats - See the Jubilant Neo-Soul Septet Live in 2016
Despite playing music for over a decade but never quite achieving mainstream success, this distinctive singer has been heralded as one of 2016's brightest stars thanks to his deep, alluring voice. Starting out as an introspective indie folk artist, Nathaniel has departed from the sound that captured him a cult fan base, inviting six other bandmates to help him champion an old school brand of gospel-influenced soul.
The triumph of the collective's joyous debut single 'S.O.B.' has garnered the troupe a swelling global following, with the brilliant 'Trying So Hard Not to Know' and 'Wasting Time' proving it was no one-off success. The group's humble frontman appears bewildered by his newfound popularity, saying: 'Things in the States are really clicking into place. It's funny that people are starting to be interested in what we're doing - it feels kind of weird'. Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats - Critically Acclaimed Roots Music Troupe
Ratecliff grew up in the rural surrounds of Missouri, discovering his passion for music at the age of seven when he learned to play the drums. Rifling through his parents' record collection, he found inspiration in the back catalogues of rhythm and blues legends like Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, and decided to try his luck as a professional musician. Upon moving to Denver to undertake missionary work, he started performing his pensive, fragile collection of tunes in watering holes across Colorado, becoming something of a local folk pop hero.
He first garnered major attention in the late 2000s, when his first solo LP In Memory of Loss was named Amazon's number one album you might have missed in 2010. Opening for The Fray introduced his music to a wider audience, and an appearance on Later with Jools Holland led to supporting slots with Bon Iver, Ben Howard and Mumford and Sons - but it wasn't until he decided to join up with six other musicians that Nathaniel started making major traction on the airwaves. Taking his music in a more soulful direction with the Night Sweats has struck a chord with fans, and their eponymous debut album soared in charts across the globe off the back of single 'S.O.B'. Hear their razor sharp roots rhythms live when you buy Nathaniel Ratecliff and the Night Sweats tickets on StubHub.
