Maria Bamford's career milestones
Bamford began working in comedy in 1989. She gained knowledge and experience over the first few years of her career playing to relatively small crowds in comedy clubs. Her breakthrough moment came in 2003 when she embarked on the Burning Bridges Tour. A recording of the one-woman show, which went into many areas of her life, including some of the most personal ones imaginable, was made at the Acme Comedy Club in Minneapolis. The comedian put a new show together for 2007. This performance was called How to Win! and it was recorded for a comedy album, this time in Austin, Texas. Two years later, the performer embarked on another one-woman show, which she had partially written when she was performing How to Win!. Unwanted Thoughts Syndrome focused on mental health issues even more closely than her previous tours.
In addition to stand-up work, Bamford is a noted Hollywood performer. She has acted in several TV shows, lending her voice to characters in Adventure Time, American Dad! and Ugly Americans. As well as these appearances, Bamford has made it onto the small screen as a guest on numerous chat shows. The actor’s feature film debut came in Lucky Numbers, a movie of 2000. Other movies she has participated in include Stuart Little 2, Hell and Back and Charlotte’s Web 2: Wilbur’s Great Adventure.
In 2016, Netflix commissioned a new series from Bamford. She would star in the show entitled Lady Dynamite, but was not involved in any of the writing, despite being present at the programme’s writers’ meetings. In the programme, Bamford plays herself. Her performance has drawn critical acclaim from critics in North America. Like her stand-up, the show delves into Bamford’s personality and disorders with a great deal of honesty, with which the comedian is rightly associated. In 2016, Bamford put out a new CD of her comedy in a show called 20%.
