Majid Jordan Tickets
Formed by two Canadians, Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman, Majid Jordan is best described as an R&B act that takes in some poppier sounds from time to time. The pair first crossed paths when they attended the University of Toronto. In the early part of 2013, the duo was operating under the name Good People, and it is under this incarnation of the band that they released their debut EP, entitled After Hours. This work had been home-produced, alternately working in Ullman’s university room and in his parents’ basement.
Majid Jordan's career breakthrough
Following After Hours, the Canadian rapper and record producer Drake featured the duo on his track “Hold On, We're Going Home”. However, he chose to credit the pair with their first names, rather than as Good People. Therefore, many fans first came to their music under the title Majid Jordan, and the name has stuck. “Hold On, We're Going Home” was a single taken from Drake's platinum-selling LP, Nothing Was the Same. It was a huge success, marking Drake's highest chart positions up to that point in time in the US, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, as well as his home country of Canada.
Having contributed to a worldwide hit, Majid Jordan signed to OVO Sound, a record label partly owned by Drake. In July 2014, the duo put out their first official single, “A Place Like This”, under their new stage name. An EP of the same name, which peaked at number 19 in the R&B charts in the United States, followed later in that month. It was only made available for digital download.
Majid Jordan's first full album and later career
Produced by OVO Sound and distributed by Warner Brothers, Majid Jordan's debut studio album was unleashed on the public in February 2016. This work was made available on CD, LP and cassette, as well as being digitally released. The self-titled album was a top 20 hit in Canada and scored a minor mainstream hit in the UK and Australia. It reached number six in the US R&B charts and number 18 in the UK's corresponding R&B chart.
The pair had another success with Drake in 2016, when they featured on his track “Summers Over Interlude”, taken from his Views album. The pair then went on to announce an extensive tour of North America that year. A video for one of their later singles, “Every Step Every Way”, won a prize for its post-production at the Much Music Video Awards later in 2016.
