Little May is made up of a group of close friends who are known for creating a dark mix of raw lyrics that presents itself in a fun way. The band's first album was produced by Aaron Brooking Dessner of the highly-acclaimed band The National in upstate New York. Little May used a converted nineteenth-century church in the Hudson Valley to record the album and first video and the haunted charm of the old space certainly lends to the sound. The producers stayed down in the basement control room and made adjustments and changes while watching on video.
Little May is made up of three friends -- Hannah Field, Liz Drummond and Annie Hamilton. The band was inspired by folk-loving friends as well as some of their favorite artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Mumford & Sons and Local Natives. They have been producing folk music based on these influences since 2012.
Though they are a very young band, Little May have a lot to show for their time and effort. The band was asked to play the Secret Garden Festival in 2013 and the Australia Music Prize PRE-AMP show later that year. Little May started to gain a solid reputation after these two shows and its audience continued to grow beyond Sydney and out into the U.K. and the U.S.
Little May's first notable single was called Hide and it came off of their 2013 debut album. It's a dark song that garnered attention from fans and critics alike. Since then, their debut EP has released the singles Boardwalks, Dust and Bones, which have all been met with great critical acclaim. They have gotten over one million SoundCloud plays of their album and three million Spotify streams.
Seeing these girls live is a really special experience for both fans and folks who are new to their sound. Expect to hear some personal tales in between their songs and for their scintillating sound to envelop you throughout the evening.
