More about the Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders play in the AFC West division. The Raiders are one of the more storied teams in the NFL, having taken the identity of their late owner Al Davis. His mantra of "Just Win, Baby" has stuck with the team even after Davis passed. This encapsulates the mentality of the Raiders, who have always been one of the more hard-nosed teams in football. The Raiders are coached by John Gruden, who is in his second stint with the team after signing the richest coaching contract in American sports history. The Raiders have a longstanding rivalry with the Kansas City Chiefs. There are many Raiders in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including Marcus Allen, Ken Stabler and Tim Brown.
The Las Vegas Raiders experience
The Raiders historically played in the Oakland Alameda Coliseum. Starting in 2020, the Raiders will call Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas home. Raiders fans refer to themselves as "Raiders Nation." The Raiders, as well as their fans, have always fashioned themselves as outlaws.
The history of the Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders were founded in 1960 and played in the old American Football League. Davis became the coach in 1963 and eventually bought the team. The Raiders became a part of the NFL when the two leagues merged in 1970. Under coach John Madden, the Raiders became one of the dominant teams in the league. This dominance and tradition of excellence continued well into the 1980s. By 1984, the Raiders had won three Super Bowl titles. Quarterback Jim Plunkett led the team to Super Bowls in 1980 and 1983. After a period of decline, the franchise hired Gruden for the first time in 1998, and the franchise experienced a rebirth for a brief period.
