Twenty men's football teams hailing from many parts of Spain go head-to-head in La Liga, a professional league. Each match stands to bring a new tale of glorious victory, graceful defeat, tough calls and incredible plays. For football fans, each match means yet another opportunity to unite, to shout and to cheer on top teams and players. A La Liga match is an experience like no other, where even the air comes alive with excitement.

Schedule of Matches

The La Liga schedule consists of teams such as Sevilla FC, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Granada CF and Villarreal CF. The dates and times for matches change; for example, some matches start at 13:00, 16:15, 18:30 and 20:45. Matches on Saturday and Sunday are popular, but there are plenty of competitions during the week as well.

Each team plays 38 matches, and the season runs from August to May. All of the teams get to play one another, once at home and once on the rival's home ground.

In the La Liga season, teams get three points when they win, no points when they lose, and one point when they draw, or tie. There are many tie-breaking scenarios in case two or more teams end up with the same number of points at the end of the season; the team with the most points is the La Liga champion.

Some of the most well-known La Liga players include Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi dazzles with his shot selections, ball control and dribbling, among his many other talents. Meanwhile, Ronaldo keeps fans coming back for more with his scoring proficiency, superhuman athleticism and speed.

The first-, second- and third-place teams in La Liga qualify for the Union of European Football Associations Champions League. The team in fourth place gets to play in the playoffs to qualify for the Champions League. Fifth- and sixth-place teams participate in the Europa League. The Champions League is a significant, respected tournament, and the Europa League is also recognised as a tough tournament.

Many thousands of Spaniards live, breathe and drink football, and La Liga is the sport at its professional best, with Spain admired the world over as the country with the best teams. Fans are devoted to their clubs, and the love comes through loud and clear at matches. It's common to see fans waving huge flags and chanting songs.

The stadiums are easy to get to. For example, FC Barcelona has the highest-capacity stadium, Camp Nou, at 98,260 seats, and metro, walking and car are common ways that fans use to get there. Fun fact: the stadium is so large that it even has a chapel.

At a La Liga match, fans can enjoy all manner of food and drink. The air crackles with excitement, electricity and cheers, and the joy is contagious.
