Kimbra's career milestones
Kimbra’s debut studio album, a work called Vows, was released in 2011. The singer had spent a long time putting the LP together, beginning work on the recording in 2008. Initially released in Australia, the album produced no less than three hit singles for the artist. The first of these was “Settle Down”, which came out in June of that year, with a supporting promotional video that was released on YouTube. It was re-released in November, when it peaked at number 37 in the New Zealand singles chart. “Cameo Lover” was the next single, a track that was nominated for the Best Video prize at the ARIA Music Awards of 2011. It also received a nomination for the Song of the Year at the APRA Music Awards of 2012 in Australia. The third charting single from Vows was “Good Intent”, which got to number 98 in Australia.
After the initial success of Vows, which made it to number three in the RIANZ album charts on its first week of release, it was decided to repackage the album. A new version hit the shelves in May of 2012, with the addition of six entirely new tracks. This time, the album was mixed and mastered by Colin Leonard. Variously described as a deluxe edition and a tour edition, the album coincided with Kimbra’s nationwide tour of Australia that year. The revamped version was also released in the North American market for the first time. It got to number 14 in the US Billboard 200 Album Charts, cementing Kimbra’s name as a popular music artist with a wide appeal.
In 2012, the musician released “Warrior” as a single, reaching number 22 in her home country. This was followed up by the track “Two Way Street”, which broke into the top 10. In 2013, Kimbra’s song “Come Into My Head” was featured as a closing credits track for the movie The Heat; a film starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.
