Since 2012, Kew the Movies has helped audiences savour those last dewy moments of summer with a combination of old favourites and new classics that appear against the backdrop of the historical Kew Palace. With popcorn, Pimm's and picnic blankets, what better way is there to enjoy to the cinema? This pop-up cinema allows everyone to drink in the sounds of summer and the changes of fall while enjoying an activity previously reserved for the indoors. You can pack your own fare or purchase one of the tempting hampers that feature a seasonal assortment of local and fresh delights.
This year, Kew the Movies brings you :Back to the Future." Brimming with 80s nostalgia and the antics of Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown, this film brings the audience back in time to where they thought the future (our present) held amazing tricks like hovering skateboards. On top of this classic, Kew the Movies will be featuring a new staple in the classic film family. Perhaps you missed your chance to see the vibrant colours and appealing symmetry on the big screen in Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel," but worry not. You now have a second chance. Led by the quirky Ralph Fiennes, this cast also features the talents of Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton and Jeff Goldblum, and will transport you to a luxury European hotel full of the wild antics of its staff and residents.
Kew the Movies takes place over three consecutive nights in the late summer and early fall of each year. It's held in two locations. The first being in front of Kew Palace, and the second being their site in Wakehurst. Kew the Movies likes to feature a combination of family friendly and artistic films such as "Grease," "Romeo and Juliet," "The Artist" and "Frozen," so everyone with Kew the Movies tickets will be pleased. Each year, the festival features a newly released film in conjunction with something a little more seasoned.
While Kew the Movies is the perfect group outing, it was actually rated as one of the most romantic date spots in London by eHarmony. Both Time Out London and Bride magazines have recognised Kew Gardens as one of the top wedding venues in the country. However, you don't have to shell out for lavish wedding to feel the romance, you can simply purchase Kew the Movies tickets to enjoy the same romance at a fraction of the cost.
While sitting on the vast and springy lawn in front of this dazzling screen, you are likely to see familiar faces, like past attendees Leonardo DiCaprio and Sandra Bullock, and less familiar faces, like Saoirse Ronan and Berenice Bejo. Kew the Movies will captivate you with new films and soothe you with memorable classics.
This year's lineup includes "Frozen," which was written by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, "Back to the Future," which was written by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, "The Grand Budapest Hotel," which was written by Wes Anderson and Hugo Guinness, and "Grease," which was written by Bronte Woodard.
