Jesca Hoop is a Californian singer/songwriter and guitarist who has made her home in Manchester. Her quirky style is similar to artists such as Devendra Banhart, and her cutting-edge songwriting and unique vocals have resulted in comparisons between Jesca Hoop and the likes of Kate Bush and Bjork.
A mesmerising live performer, the best way to hear your favourite songs from recordings like Hunting My Dress and the EP Snowglobe is to purchase tickets to the latest Jesca Hoop tour.
Jesca Hoop - Nanny Turned Next Big Thing
Jesca Hoop got her big break while working as Tom Waits' nanny. She was raised in a music-loving Mormon family and spent time travelling around California, Arizona and Wyoming writing and performing before taking the job with the Waits family. Waits passed a Jesca Hoop demo to a DJ from a major US radio station, and a version of her song 'Seed of Wonder' started getting some airplay. This success eventually led to a record deal with 3 Entertainment.
Jesca Hoop's full-length debut album Kismet was released in 2007, followed by Hunting My Dress in 2010. A familiar face on the European festival circuit, Jesca Hoop has also toured with the Eels and Peter Gabriel. Not your run-of-the-mill female singer/songwriter, anyone who likes their music cutting edge should definitely make the effort to catch a date on the next Jesca Hoop tour.
