From classical guitars to cold beers
Born in the port city of Portsmouth in 1995, Jerry Williams first began playing the classical guitar at the age of 11 and started writing her very own songs inspired by her hometown surroundings, her friendships and the opposite sex in her mid-teens. Inspired by bands such as Coldplay, Vampire Weekend and Slow Club and singer-songwriters including Jake Bugg, Kate Nash and Jamie T, Williams first caught national attention with the 2014 EP "A Hairdressers Called Sids". She went on to work with several hitmakers including Dan Carey (Sia, Miles Kane), Nick Atkinson (Gabrielle Aplin) and Jim Diguid (Paulo Nutini) as well as chart-topping troubadour Newton Faulkner and Athlete bassist Carey Willets, release her second EP, "Cold Beer", in 2015 and appear on the BBC Introducing stage at the 2018 South by Southwest Festival. She also added to her discography with the "Let's Just Forget About It" EP in 2016 and a year later reworked its four tracks for an acoustic version. An enchanting live performer
Just as comfortable playing live entirely solo as she is with a full backing band, Jerry Williams has not stopped touring since emerging on the music scene in the mid-'10s. Not only has she performed a series of headlining tours, she's also showcased her enchanting blend of indie, folk and acoustic pop on the festival stages of The Great Escape, Closeup and Reeperbahn, and impressed audiences at the annual SXSW. Those attending her live shows should expect to hear singles such as "Grab Life", "Cold Beer", "Boy Oh Boy", "Velcro", "Left and Right", "Let's Just Forget About It" and "Mother", the latter of which has racked up more than four million plays on Spotify. Williams also likes to pay tribute to many of the acts who have inspired her career during her setlists too, with covers of The Cure's "Boys Don't Cry", Jamie T's "If You Got the Money" and The Killers' "Human" particular favourites.
