Ja Rule Biography - King of Collaborations

Better known to his family and friends as Jeffrey Atkins, this hip-hop mogul was born in 1976 and grew up in the borough of Queens in New York City. He kick-started his music career in 1993 when he became a member of the classic rap group Cash Money Click, finding his stage name and rubbing shoulders with fledgling rap stars including Jay Z and DMX. He signed to Def Jam records in 1998 and featured on Jay Z's smash hit single 'Can I Get A�' - for which he wrote the hook. The song propelled the two rappers to commercial stardom and he spent the next few years gathering a strong fan base.

He released his platinum-selling debut album Venni Vetti Vecci - now a certified urban classic - in 1999 through Murder Inc. Records, paving the way for further hit albums like Rule 3.36 and Pain Is Love. The controversial icon became known for collaborating with Fat Joe and popular female R 'n' B stars like Christina Milian, Jennifer Lopez and Ashanti on lush love tracks like 'Always on Time', which defined the sound of the early 2000s.
