Iron and Wine Biography - Film Academic to Soundtracker
Born in South Carolina, this soloist quietly nurtured his musical talents for several years whilst completing his university degree and teaching as a professor of film. It was only many years later - when his friend lent him a four-track recorder - that this aspirational artist was able to realise his passion. Despite a slow start he attracted the attention of Sub Pop Records after appearing on a compilation CD for Yeti magazine. After requesting more material, the label received two full-length albums, which they condensed into his debut release The Creek Drank the Cradle, put together in his home studio.
Drawing favourable comparisons to Nick Drake and Neil Young, the shaggy-haired soloist found more mainstream success with 2004 record Our Endless Numbered Days. Recorded in a professional studio and with a band, the album lent songs to hit films In Good Company and Garden State. Later in 2008, track 'Flightless Bird, American Mouth' was handpicked by Kristen Stewart to feature on the Twilight soundtrack.
