The Brief History of International Club football

This exhibition was started in 2009 as the World Football Challenge, featuring football clubs from Europe and North America in an effort to continue the cultivation of soccer or football as a premier spectator sport as well as support the growth of Major League Soccer in North America. However, this was abandoned after 2012 in favour of an all-European club tour. Eight teams competed under the revised tournament in 2013, where perennial powerhouse Read Madrid CF triumphed over Chelsea FC. Real Madrid CF is accompanied by Juventus FC, Paris Saint-Germain FC and Tottenham Hotspur as teams that have won this tournament. Starting with the 2015 season, the exhibition tour was expanded to include contests in Australia and China as well as North America, with Real Madrid CF again winning two of these three contests, while Paris Saint-Germain FC prevailed in the Americas.
