Highly Suspect Tickets
A three-piece rock band from Cape Cod in Massachusetts, Highly Suspect has been gigging since 2009. They began as a simple cover band, playing the songs of Pink Floyd and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, for example, in local bars. However, from the outset, the band wrote their own songs, too, and Highly Suspect are now firmly established as an original rock outfit, with crunching chords to go alongside their self-penned lyrics.
Highly Suspect consists of twin brothers, Rich and Ryan Meyer, who make up the band's rhythm section. Rich plays the bass guitar while Ryan is a drummer. Both perform backing vocals on recordings as well as at live shows. The frontman and guitarist is Johnny Stevens, who takes lead vocals. The band relocated from their hometown to New York after a while. Following this, they recorded their third EP under the auspices of famed producer Joel Hamilton, who had previously worked with the likes of the Black Keys and Elvis Costello. The EP was titled The Worst Humans and set the tone for Highly Suspect's trademark sound.
Highly Suspect's history
Highly Suspect recorded their debut EP, First Offense, as early as 2009. They followed this up the following autumn with The Gang Lion, another EP which had songs on it that would make it all the way through to their debut album. Their breakthrough recording was The Worst Humans, however, which was made available for digital download on Bandcamp and gained them more attention.
Highly Suspect's eagerly anticipated album came about in 2011 and featured notable songs such as “Gang Lion” and “Then Mickey”. However, it was little more than a rehash of earlier recordings. In 2013, a further EP followed, named Black Ocean. After this, the band embarked on an extensive tour of the United States and supported many high-profile acts, such as Stone Temple Pilots, Deftones and Halestorm.
In July 2015, Mister Asylum was released; a completely new studio album. The single “Lydia” charted at number four in the US Mainstream Rock charts and was nominated for a Grammy Award. The album was also nominated for a prize at the 2016 ceremony. Mister Asylum sold over 4,000 copies in the first week of its release and did well in New Zealand, as well as the US. At this time, the editors of iTunes chose the band for its prestigious New Artist Spotlight.
The group released The Boy Who Died Wolf in 2016. This album featured the memorable “My Name is Human”. This track was chosen as a single. Like “Lydia”, it was also nominated for a Grammy under the Best Rock Song category.
