Goldfrapp: award-winning electro marvels back for more Silver Eye
Alison Goldfrapp was born in Enfield and grew up in Hampshire, attending a convent school that she was forced to leave because she preferred the arts to academia. She developed an interest in music in the 1990s while attending Middlesex University as an arts student, when she began incorporating sound and performance into her installation pieces. Alison's first taste of being a singer came when she featured on trip-hop pioneer Tricky's acclaimed debut album Maxinquaye.
The creative collaborator met her long time music partner Will Gregory in 1999 and the pair formed an instant bond over their mutual love of art and eclectic melodies. Before long, the pair had fashioned their debut album Felt Mountain, which fused a variety of popular genres including 1960s pop, cabaret, folk and electronica. Their distinctive sound helped them stand out in a post-Britpop landscape and the duo received a barrage of critical acclaim, including a Mercury Prize nomination. An unexpected hit in America, the unusual act developed a heavier dance sound as the '00s progressed. Alison amplified her sultry vocals and Will augmented his hard-hitting synthesiser work for their third studio album Supernature, which garnered fame on a global scale as well as a Grammy Award nomination.
The celebrated duo returned in 2017 with their highly anticipated seventh album Silver Eye, reverting to the softer sounds associated with their earlier works. Purchase Goldfrapp tickets at StubHub and see the twosome perform their classic back catalogue.
