Fun Biography - Exploding Onto the International Music Scene
Fun the band was formed after The Format broke up in February 2008, with lead singer Nate Reuss approaching Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff to join his new musical endeavour. The trio began recording their debut album in the autumn of 2008, spurred by a mutual love of pop music and quirky melodies. Fun enlisted the help of producer Steve Macdonald and former Jellyfish keyboard player Robert Joseph Manning Jr., culminating in the release of Aim and Ignite in the summer of 2009. The album attracted critical acclaim and the band were complimented on their ability to interject wry, humorous lyrics into a progressive pop album.
Fun then began extensively touring, supporting artists such as Paramore and Panic! at the Disco, the latter with whom Fun released a joint single with in May 2011. During this time, the band diligently worked on the next Fun album, Some Nights, which was released in February 2012. The record achieved critical and commercial success and spawned the massive single 'We Are Young' featuring US vocalist Janelle Monáe. The song reached number one on multiple international charts and became one of the best selling singles of 2012.
