Emmy The Great Tickets
Emmy the Great - Folk Singer Announces 2016 UK Tour
Former member of Noah and the Whale, this singer-songwriter is a leading figure in London's anti-folk scene and has developed a sound that subverts the traditional genre to give it an experimental edge. This has proved popular with both her album releases, with First Love making The New York Times list of 'Best Albums of the Year 2009' and Virtue, highly praised for its honest and emotive exploration of the breakdown of an engagement. A talented writer as well as performer, her third record Second Love is out in March 2016, after the phenomenal success of 2015 EP S. In celebration of the release, the guitar-wielding singer will be heading out on a full UK tour in May, so pick up your Emmy the Great tickets now on StubHub to hear the new material live.
Emmy the Great Biography - Back With Her Second Love in 2016
Born in Hong Kong, Emma Lee-Moss became interested in music from a young age and used to travel regularly to her local record shop in order to find material from non-Chinese artists. This brought about a love for alt-rock bands such as Weezer, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Lemonheads, who proved early inspirations for her own music. Her family moved back to the UK when she turned 12 years old, and she began to pursue music more seriously after the completion of her school days. Soon, she was performing with the likes of Lightspeed Champion and Noah and the Whale, and a solo career beckoned. She adopted her current moniker as a stage name in 2006, drawing on a nickname she had whilst at university, and released debut single 'Secret Circus'. Whilst gigging around the country she began to work on her debut album, bringing together elements of traditional folk with alternative lyrical elements.
First Love landed in 2009 and was met with positive reviews, earning praise for its maturity, intelligent lyrics, and possession of a subtle, sophisticated humour. She toured the festival circuit the next year, playing to audiences at Green Man, Latitude and Glastonbury, before releasing her second record Virtue in 2011. The LP was inspired by the breakdown of her engagement, after her (then) fianc decided to leave the UK to become a Christian missionary. Now after spending the last few years gigging, as well as writing for publications like The Guardian and Vice on the side, the singer will return in 2016 with her third album Second Love and tour the UK in May.
