Although Christopher Owens started playing guitar and singing while in his early teens, his career path took several detours on the way to music. In his late teens, he spent four years working as a grocer's shelf stocker and restaurant worker. He later became the personal assistant of artist Stanley Marsh III. Owens also had dreams of becoming an artist himself, and he eventually moved to San Francisco with the idea of pursuing a career in art.
Christopher Owens started his musical career in San Francisco, where he began performing as a touring guitarist with the popular local band Holy Shit. In 2007 Owens formed his own band, and soon afterwards he was hired to be the frontman and songwriter for the indie rock group Girls. After touring and recording with the band for several years, Owens broke away in 2012 to pursue a solo career. Since then, he has toured internationally and recorded two hit solo albums. In addition, Christopher Owens has also taken on a highly successful modelling career. In 2012, he was chosen as the face of the spring/summer fashion campaign for famed design house Saint Laurent Paris, and in 2013 he was selected to represent the Isabel Marant fashion line for mega retailer H&M.
Christopher Owens has seen two significant breakthroughs in his musical career. The first came when he was hired to tour and perform with indie group Girls, which gave him an international platform for his musical skills. The next breakthrough came in 2013 with the release of the album Lysandre, which has received major international radio airplay.
Released in January 2013, Christopher Owens' breakthrough album, Lysandre, was named after a girl whom Owens met while on the French leg of his 2008 Girls tour. According to Owens, the album is not only a coming-of-age road trip story; it's a romantic tale as well. To help publicise the album's release, Owens, along with the seven other musicians who appeared on the album, gave a live performance of Lysandre at San Francisco's The Lodge at the Regency Center in November of 2012. His second album, A New Testament, was released in September 2014.
A Christopher Owens concert is something of an intimate experience, where the audience can expect sincere, off-the-cuff banter and informal, engaging interactions. There's no laser light show, nor are there smoke-and-mirror effects. Instead, the audience is completely drawn into the music, and quickly captivated by Owens' deeply personal performance. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a coffee house folk concert from the '60s, but the songs are compellingly contemporary. Likewise, while he excels in straight-from-the-heart ballads, Christopher Owens also delivers a number of upbeat, toe-tapping melodies -- enhanced by killer riffs and impressive guitar skills -- that will keep the audience humming long after the concert is over.
