Get to Know Christine and the Queens
Christine and the Queens is the alter ego cum nom de stage of one Heloise Letissier who was born in Nantes, France in 1988. The child of academics, Heloise was raised in a rather liberal setting and was encouraged by her parents to explore herself, her sexuality and the world around her. While on a trip to London she would befriend a 'drag queen' and this association would provide 'the Queens' influencing her choice of stage name. After releasing her debut album "Misericorde" in 2011, Christine found herself touring with bands like Lykke Li and Woodkid. A 2013 tour would find her opening act for Lilly Wood & the Prick. Christine and the Queens found success with the release of the 2015 eponymous album and its international hit "Tilted". Following up on that acclaim, the group would embark on a tour of North America introducing American audiences to her stellar performances. Why not check her out in concert? Enjoy the Experience of Christine and the Queens
She has dance moves that easily remind one of Michael Jackson or Usher. Her songs have English lyrics tinged with French rap solos. Her voice is soft, eloquent and her music is danceable. Heloise aka Christine is a woman who wants "to feel good in her own skin" and this comes across very clearly when she is onstage. A true auteur, she employs music videos, art and choreographed dance moves in her routines. Above all else, she is not afraid to express her ideas of her own sexuality with lyrics that are often bold and uncompromising. This translates more readily with European audiences, but she doesn't let that stop her when she's further afield. Good music is good music and, as such, requires no label of gender identification. Progressive attitudes around the globe are a healthy indicator that this artist will be able to find her niche and add to her list of admirers for years to come.
