Barnum The Musical Birmingham Tickets
Focusing on the figure of P.T. Barnum, best known as the founder of the Barnum & Bailey Circus, Barnum the Musical wows with its combination of amazing acrobatic feats and delightful music. Just as P.T. Barnum's shows included inspiring acts of courage and daring, the musical based on his life is littered with impressive circus acts, making this show a feast for all the senses.
Barnum follows the journey of Barnum & Bailey Circus founder P.T. Barnum who, much to the chagrin of his wife, uses the concept of "humbug" to promote such unique acts as the oldest woman alive and the dwarf Tom Thumb. Having briefly abandoned his dreams in order to pursue a more stable life, Barnum finds himself desolate and alone in the wake of his wife's death. He eventually is offered the chance of a lifetime -- to join the circus alongside fellow Barnum & Bailey founder James Anthony Bailey.
Over three decades after it first astounded audiences on Broadway and West End, Barnum was revived at the Chichester Festival Theatre. This version of the musical has since gone on the road, touring throughout the United Kingdom. Following a lengthy run at the Birmingham Hippodrome, the show will move on to the Lowry in Salford and then the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff.
Brian Conley, who took on the demanding role of P.T. Barnum, began his training a full six months before the United Kingdom tour for Barnum launched. During his time at circus school, he lost quite a bit of weight and learned how to walk on the wire. This obvious sense of dedication is just one of many reasons why Barnum the Musical Birmingham tickets are in such high demand.
The currently touring version of Barnum stars Brian Conley as P.T. Barnum. Although he is a very talented stage actor, Conley is best known for his work in television, most notably starring in the comedy series The Brian Conley Show on both LWT and ITV. Conley's comedic genius and surprising grasp of dramatic acting make him perfect for the role of the Barnum & Bailey Circus founder. The musical also features Linzi Hateley, who was previously nominated for an Olivier Award for her work with Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
After working extensively with the legendary David Merrick, Mark Bramble decided to go his own way in the world of theatre, eventually writing the book for Barnum. Other influential figures involved in the creation of this musical included the award-winning Cy Coleman, who wrote the music for the show, and Michael Stewart, who wrote the lyrics. Sir Cameron Mackintosh was instrumental in the revival of the production, although he worked extensively with Mark Bramble to ensure that the updated version continued to capture the charm of its Broadway and West End predecessors.
The revival version of Barnum is directed by Jean-Pierre Van Der Spuy. An acclaimed director, Van Der Spuy is best known for his work with the United Kingdom tours for Oliver and Miss Saigon. As the director of Barnum, he is assisted by Stephen Whitson, who is known for his work with Jubilee Street at London's Theatre503, as well as the film shorts 13 and The Trip. Together, this dynamic duo has breathed new life into what was already an amazing production.
