Croatian musician Stjepan Hauser and his Slovenian partner Luka Sulic are back with their third album, Celloverse. Featuring original arrangements for cello of songs by Mumford and Sons, Muse, Hans Zimmer and Radiohead, the record is another superb tribute to popular music, and a reminder of what a brilliantly diverse and adaptable instrument the cello is.
This time, Chinese pianist Lang Lang is the sole guest for a version of 'Live and Let Die', while Sulic and Hauser include two compositions of their own. Make sure you pick up 2Cellos tickets at StubHub to see these brilliant musicians in the flesh.
2Cellos Biography - Croatian Duo's Pop Covers Go Viral
Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser first became acquainted while studying the cello as young adults, and although they initially came up against each other in competitions, a rivalry quickly developed into a friendship. Soon, a partnership formed and, despite prestigious musical education between them at institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Northern College of Music, financial insecurity brought about a change of tact. A director friend of the pair suggested they film a pop music video and, after some consideration, Michael Jackson's 'Smooth Criminal' was chosen. Accruing over three million views in the first fortnight after it was uploaded, the duelling cellists quickly caught the attention of Sony Masterworks, who released their eponymous debut in 2011.
After a great cameo performing the track on US TV show Glee, the album rocketed to the top of the Billboard Top Classical chart, with fans lapping up their interpretations of classic tracks such as Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida'. The following year saw the release of their sophomore effort, In2ition. Building on their global fan base, the album saw the duo collaborate with a number of internationally renowned special guests including Elton John and Steve Vai.
Now touring again in support of their 2015 LP Celloverse, the band is set to reach new heights. Be there to see them perform live and grab your 2Cellos tickets at StubHub today - one of the world's largest fan to fan ticket marketplaces.
