The Breeders Biography - Kurt Cobain's Pick

Resurrected from a group Kim Deal had formed with her sister in their youth, the band came to fruition after the bassist began writing material outside of her other band. Knowing that the group had no immediate plans to record new songs, the artist decided to form a separate group of her own with Throwing Muses' Tanya Donelly. Soon, the quartet were signed to 4AD and shortly after released debut album Pod - famously championed by Kurt Cobain as one of his favourite records.

Following a support tour with Nirvana, the group released Late Splash which contained warped hit 'Cannonball'. The single brought the group mainstream recognition and saw their album go platinum within the space of just a year. However fame and extensive touring brought with it exhaustion and the group went on hiatus as quickly as they had started. To the delight of fans and critics, the group reformed in 1996, with the Deal sisters having been joined by a new line-up. Celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2013, the group are regarded as one of rock's most venerable acts, carrying on the "warped" rock first made famous by the Pixies.
