Tallest Man on Earth - Royal Albert Hall Show Signals Huge 2016
Often compared to the master of folk Bob Dylan, this Swedish singer-songwriter promotes a raw, un-produced sound rarely seen in current music, combining poetic lyrics with a sophisticated guitar style and his distinctive husky voice. In 2015 he released fourth album Dark Bird is Home, which became his biggest commercial success to date after taking on a heavier sound than previous releases. The record was described as sumptuous and driven, drawing on his personal experiences to create an emotive sound. In celebration of ten years performing under his current moniker, the gritty singer makes his way to London's Royal Albert Hall in June 2016 for a special performance as part of the Albert Sessions initiative. Tallest Man on Earth Biography - Swedish Singer Celebrates a Decade in the Industry
Kristian Matsson was born in Dalarna, Sweden in 1983 and first found his place in music as part of the group Montezumas. Breaking away from the group he released EP The Tallest Man on Earth in 2006, revealing his new moniker and a sound recorded in his own living room. After finding success in independent circles it would be in 2008 with the release of debut album Shallow Grave that the singer would break into the mainstream, when the record was picked up by online publication Pitchfork and praised for its simplicity and beauty. His profile increased even more when he was chosen to be the opening act for Bon Iver on their world tour and by 2010, record labels were fighting to get him signed.
Dead Oceans were his label of choice given the artistic freedom they provide musicians, and second LP The Wild Hunt soon came out. Once again, the album was well received and led to a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Artist the following year. Singles 'King of Spain' and 'Love is All' would prove particularly popular as he completed a sell-out tour of Europe and North America to rapturous receptions. Recorded at his home in Dalarna, third album There's No Leaving Now dropped in 2012, full of the tough and edgy tracks that have set him apart from his contemporaries. His most recent record Dark Bird is Home took the singer in a new direction, incorporating a darker rock sound into folk melodies and once again proved a hit with critics and fans alike. To celebrate the album release and 10 years of success making music, the singer appears at London's Royal Albert Hall in June 2016.
